This post is not about weddings

What if you returned all your duplicate wedding gifts for cash and then adopted a child through Compassion?
What if you invited five homeless people to your wedding and made them the guests of honor?
What if you put the names of the bridal party on the front of the wedding handout and put yours on the back?
What if you required your guests to bring a partially used gift card as their ticket into your wedding and then gave all the cards to GiftCardGiver?
What if you paused in the middle of your wedding and asked all the married couples to quietly spend five minutes encouraging each other?
What if you talked about Jesus in your wedding?
What if, instead of hiring a boring wedding singer, you found a class of 3rd graders at an underprivileged school to sing instead, and you donated $500 to their classroom?
What if you had fun in your wedding and then used the video to brighten the day of 26,000,000 people and then set up a website to prevent violence?
What if, instead of writing thank you notes about toasters, you used those notes instead to affirm the greatest strength you see in that person?
What if the two of you recorded a 30-second video at the beach (or wherever you honeymoon) individually thanking the people who drove to your wedding from out of town?
Most people spend away the last 30 minutes of their single life. What if you invested it?

Yup. There are a gazillion ways to bless – new fresh ways that the status quo would consider radical and maybe outlandish. Let the renaissance begin!

Our lives as married people should be an extended metaphor of Christ and the church. These suggestions would be a great doorway to that reality!

We had TONS of food left over from our wedding reception and took it to a local homeless shelter right after we left the wedding. They cried and it was fantastic. : ) Its so awesome to give back on a day that you have received so much!

The idea of investing time vs spending time is so vivid here! This article was amazing, Brett!

Totally blown away, Brett! What awesome ideas! I’m filing them away for when my two kiddos get married one day. :) By the way, my favorite one is the underprivileged kids singing. Love it!

5 months ago I was blessed to marry the woman of my dreams and prayers! We focused our ceremony on Him (since He brought us together)! Until I read this great topic I thought we could not have done anything different to glorify Him. However after reading this I realized we could have glorified Him through blessing others.
Thank you Brett for your passionate out of the box thinking, you are truly using your talents and this platform to impact God’s kingdom. Keep up the great work!

Amazing concepts!!! Love it! What a difference we could make in this world if we would take the time to be creative and compassionate! Thanks for keeping me thinking!…and btw, we did talk about Jesus and sin at our wedding! Had an altar call too! Watched people walk the aisles to come and pray for our marriage! No better place to talk about Jesus than at a wedding!

My sister, Ashley passed along your blog to me about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been stopping in from time to time for some good reads. I’m not even sure if you read feedback from previous posts, but felt like commenting since this post basically read my mind. After a full day of wedding dress shopping yesterday with my newly engaged roommate/best friend it was really great to refocus and regain some perspective! I am more than confident that her wedding will be all about Jesus and bringing the gospel to friends and family, but despite that, I’m already starting to see how easy it is to get caught up in the details and lose the heart of God’s purpose in marriage and the entire process. You have some really thought-provoking insight Brett and I appreciate your taking the time to share them….even with those of us that you don’t even know are benefitting!
oh and p.s. you had some pretty good arguments for Twitter last week and almost had me convinced to hop on that train but I haven’t made the leap yet, ha. Thanks for the passion though
