TRAPPSTR.com turns one month old!

Posted on 22. Sep, 2009 by Brett in Etc

One month ago today (Aug 22) I launched this website. It was a big day for me. For three years, I wanted to start a blog, but was so unsure of myself. I kind of felt like a kitten on a freeway. After much prayer and planning and research and storing up a warchest of ideas, I jumped in and launched TRAPPSTR.com. So far it’s been a fun experience. Here are a few observations from the last 4 weeks:

  • I’ve gone back and forth on how often I should post. I’ve kind of settled into a Monday – Friday groove, taking the weekends off. That’s what I’ll stick with for now, but it may change in the future. I’m terrified that if I post too much, the well of good ideas will run dry, and this blog will read like the phonebook.
  • I never know who is actually reading this thing. I LOVE comments and emails from readers as it lets me know that the time spent writing is not in vain. TRAPPSTR.com has received 140 comments since we started. Keep em coming!
  • The busiest day here on the blog was Sep 9, when we had 266 different visitors.
  • The top 3 states by visitors are – 1. Alabama 2. Georgia 3. Tennessee
  • To the 7 visitors from Barueri, Brazil…YOU ROCK!
  • Of 1 billion+ people in China, I haven’t had one visit. Hey communism…YOU SUCK!
  • 58% of you access this site via Safari or Firefox. For the 32.80% of you who come here on Internet Explorer, the rest of us will be praying for you.
  • The most popular article (based on number of views) has been this post. Very surprising to me actually.
  • My personal favorite post is this post.
  • Based off feedback from you guys, the post that seems to have had the deepest impact is this post.
  • I don’t think there is anything wrong with promoting your blog. But other than Twitter/Facebook posts, it’s not something I’ve done much of (intentionally). I’ve tried to keep the focus on producing content that you guys enjoy. I believe that if you like something you read on here, you’ll pass it along. For those of you that do, thanks! In the future, I’ll promote more though.
  • Something funny – One of my friends posted a link to my article on college football brands on one of the premium Alabama football message boards. A couple of the guys on the forum agreed with my rankings but most thought I was completely wrong. My favorite quotes, “Your friend is an idiot” and “Tell your friend he knows absolutely nothing about college football.” Haha, that’s awesome. Gotta love internet anonymity.
  • This blog is only valuable insomuch as it moves people to ACTION. Otherwise it is just hot air being blown into the blogosphere. My favorite comments are from those of you who actually took action on something I wrote. That’s what keeps me going!
  • Look for some changes in the coming months to the site. I’ve got lots of stuff I want to do, but unfortunately it’s not free. Stay tuned.
  • Guys, I love your feedback. Whether you agree with me and love what I have to say or whether you hate me and think I’m a self-absorbed jackass, I love it all. Always feel free to leave a comment or send me an email (see contact link above).
  • I mentioned yesterday that I have a big announcement regarding TRAPPSTR. I’ll be telling this first to those of you who subscribe to my updates via email. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can do so by entering your email address into the field on the sidebar of the site where it says “Get TRAPPSTR.com Delivered to your Inbox.” Other than selling your email address for $.14 to a Ukrainian spam-lord, don’t worry about your email being used for any other purpose. ;)

Let me know what you think in comments! What do you like? What would you like to see?

Have a great day!

-Brett

What the crap is Firefox or Safari??? Are they Halo characters? Famous Bloggers? I mean come on…… some people do have a life outside of the “greatest Al Gore invention”.

And please, those of you that would be praying for how i access Trappstr.com…… nevermind, I will bite my tounge this time, haha. Blog it up cool kids!

Happy onemonthday! Keep it up, brother.
By the way, I saw a cockroach on Florence Blvd this morning…a big sucker…sprinting across the lanes. Wonder what his odds were of making it? Not quite the same picture as a kitten on a freeway, but thought it maybe appropriate that he be frantically scampering across 4 lanes of frantic morning traffic. Episodes in abundant living! :)

As I read Clark’s comment I began to wonder how long it took him to type it. I also wonder if he knew how to use the cut and paste function, or he took the time to retype your stat.

Also, is there really going to be a Blogger Meetup in Atlanta?

I don’t comment often but I do really enjoy your blog. Keep up the good work.
