5 apps that are rockin’ my world right now…

Web and device-based applications have multiplied like rabbits in the last few years. I love it, as I am an absolute app junkie. I have em on my computer, my phone, and my ipod touch. Here are the ones I use often:
- Poynt on Blackberry – I just discovered this great little app about a month ago. Poynt finds nearby businesses (think yellow pages for your BB), but its best use is for finding movie info and times based on your GPS location. You can even watch movie trailers within the app. Very cool.
- Scrabble app on facebook – This game is nirvana for words nerds like me. The simplicity and usability of this app are amazing, and you can play with any of your facebook friends anywhere in the world. You can play your turn whenever which beats dusting off grandma’s Scrabble set and commiting 4 hours to the game.
- Pandora internet radio app (web or mobile) – I know, I know, Pandora came out like 3 years ago, but I only fell in love with it this summer. It’s simple: You type in the name of a song or artist you like and the app creates a whole personalized radio station based on that selection. It’s a great way to discover new artists you wouldn’t have known otherwise. Caveat: The app is free, but if you exceed the 40 hours per month listening limit, you’ll have to subscribe to Pandora One, their paid service.
- Ambiance app for ipod touch/iphone – This is every writer’s best friend (especially in Starbucks). Very simple app that puts tons of relaxing sounds at your fingertips. You’ve got all the usual suspects–chirping birds, creek, rain–but they’ve added some new sounds including rain on a tin roof, cat’s purr, cicadas, and light saber (because who doesn’t want to sleep to the sound of light sabers?). Lots of options and a crazily simple interface make this a great app.
- Ubertwitter app for Blackberry- This is a Twitter client for your phone and it’s easily the best app I’ve discovered in the past year. Unfortunately it’s only available for the Blackberry, but this is a must-have app for BB owners who tweet. The best thing about it is how it integrates photo/video uploading as well as GPS location on individual tweets. Another really cool feature is that you can see who all is tweeting near you.
What about you? What apps do you love?

Brett, I have liked everything on here (especially the face you are making before you start your welcome video). Seriously though, the site is fantastic, I am a subscriber.
Thanks for letting me know about Poynt. Its really going to help me with movie start times.

If I hadn’t met Katie several years ago, I’d marry Pandora. My students and I listen to it all day long in my classroom. We enjoy the likes of John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Train, and when the kids aren’t around…2 Pac! OK, Just kidding….maybe just some Marshall Tucker Band!!
